Exhibition on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi

The Embassy of Hungary in The Hague is pleased to present the ‘Petőfi200 exhibition’ specifically designed for foreign audiences.

A revolutionary, a national hero, a poet. Its’s all Sándor Petőfi who was born on 1 January 1823. In just 26 years of his lifetime, he wrote nearly 1,000 poems and had a great impact on world literature. 

He was also a key figure in the revolution of 1848 in Hungary and the author of the poem ‘National Song’. To celebrate the 200th anniversary of his birth, the Embassy of Hungary in The Hague is pleased to present the exhibition (in English) focusing on Petőfi's biography, poetic quotes and the historical context of his time.

On 8 June 2023, the exhibition will be officially opened by H.E. Mr András Kocsis, Ambassador of Hungary to the Netherlands. At the festive event, a guest lecture (in Dutch ) will be given by historian and associate professor Orsolya Réthelyi, Head of Department of Netherlandic Studies at the Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest. 

The exhibition is free to visit during opening hours of the library.
