On 6 May, the Embassy of Hungary organised a literary discussion and reading in connection with the International Literature Festival Utrecht (ILFU) at the renowned Literaire Boekhandel Lijnmarkt in Utrecht. At the event, Peter Swanborn, literary critic of De Volkskrant newspaper interviewed iterary translator Mari Alföldy on the occasion of the recently published Dutch translation of the novel 'De melancholie van het verzet' by the Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai. The translation by Mari Alföldy has been nominated by critics for the European Literature Prize.
On behalf of the Embassy of Hungary, cultural attaché Dániel Csonka greeted the audience. Interested readers had the opportunity to ask questions after the discussion and readings that were done in both Hungarian and Dutch.
Mari Alföldy (Budapest, 1962) is a literary translator since 1998. Among others, she has translated the works by famous Hungarian writers such as Imre Kertész, László Krasznahorkai and Sándor Márai into Dutch. In 2014 she received one of the most important Dutch prize for literary translators, the Filter Vertaalprijs for the translation of Krasznahorkai’s Satantango.
Peter Swanborn (Bussum, 1963) is a poet and literary critic for De Volkskrant, a leading Dutch newspaper.
Thanks to the support of the Embassy, 'De melancholie van het verzet' will be prominently displayed during the International Literary Festival Utrecht.
