The young and promising Hungarian bands Terra Profonda, Dope Calypso, Belau and Mörk were selected to perform at the largest showcase festival of Europe, Eurosonic Noorderslag in Groningen. From 17 to 20 January, the four bands with repertoires ranging from electronic pop to garage rock treated the Dutch and international audience with short concerts, on one of the 36 festival stages in the inner city of Groningen.
The bands’ contributions may be watched in this short documentary made by Lonely Film:
Eurosonic Noorderslag also includes a conference for professionals of the music industry, held during all four days of the event. Like previous years, this conference was attended by a large Hungarian delegation, representing the most important Hungarian festivals and music venues.
The Embassy of Hungary in The Hague supported the presence and promotion of the four bands during the festival and funded the CEEntral European Party, a networking event for delegates from the Visegrád countries, Austria and Slovenia. The party was opened by Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Hungary, Ms Krisztina Varga, who emphasised the importance of cultural collaboration among Central European countries.
Several awards are presented during Eurosonic Noorderslag, including the European Festivals Awards. As Hungary is known for its high-level music festivals, the country brings home an award almost every year. On 16 January, Sziget was awarded with best line-up, so it has been acknowledged for its unique, multi-colored musical line-up.
The Embassy of Hungary in The Hague continues to support the bands that participated to Eurosonic. Last year, bands such as the Bohemian Betyárs and Blahalouisiana came back to the Netherlands to perform several times, partly thanks to connections made in Groningen.
