Director Katalin Bársony at ENFF’s special In Focus program: Romani stories by Romani (female) directors

On 19 March 2022, the Eastern Neighbours Film Festival (ENFF) organized a special In Focus Program featuring Romani stories by Romani (female) directors at the Filmhhuis cinema in The Hague. The program featured fiction films, documentaries, shorts and animation that deal with the Romani community and are directed, written or produced by Romani filmmakers. The films highlighted themes such as personal identity, fears, dreams and hopes of the Roma community in Eastern Europe.

Special guest was Hungarian director Katalin Bársony with her documentary How Far the Stars in which Roma musician József Balázs pursues his dream to succeed in America, and her masterclass about Romani Representation in the 21st century. A collection of three animation films from the Kecskemétfilm studio in Hungary named Gypsy Tales was also screened.
