The children's train exhibition 'Destination: Hope' was presented in the Netherlands at the Van 't Lindenhoutmuseum in Nijmegen. From our Embassy, Ambassador András Kocsis participated at the event held on 17 June 2023. 

At the ceremony, Esther Bánki director of the museum held a welcome speech, while Orsolya Réthelyi (Eötvös Loránd University) Hungarian curator of the exhibition presented the main results of her research related to the children's trains program.

Emy Koopmans writer and Arjaan van Nimwegen writer and translator - the descendants of the participants in the children's trains program – were also present at the event and paid tribute to their ancestors through literary works. Tina de Haan (Eötvös Loránd University) intern at the museum also read a correspondence of one of the children who came to Nijmegen as part of the humanitarian action.

At the ceremony, Ambassador András Kocsis delivered a speech in which he emphasized that the humanitarian action gave hope to Hungarian families and children, and the historical moment is still remembered in Hungary. Then - at the request of the director of the museum - the exhibition was officially opened by Ambassador András Kocsis.

Conveying his good wishes, Ambassador András Kocsis also met with Mrs. Sefa van Leeuwen-Marinc who came from Hungary to the Netherlands by one of the first children's trains.

The exhibition (and other related side-events) can be visited at the Van 't Lindenhoutmuseum in Nijmegen until 1 October 2023.
