On Monday 17 July 2017, Ambassador Kocsis visited the city of Harderwijk, to view an exhibition entirely devoted to the Hungarian artist Vilmos Huszár (Budapest 1884 - Harderwijk 1960). The exhibition entitled 'Huszár of De Stijl' is organised in the ‘100 jaar De Stijl’ year 2017 in the Stadsmuseum Harderwijk.

Vilmos Huszár was, together with Piet Mondriaan, Theo van Doesburg and Bart van der Leck, one of the prominent founders of the now world famous art movement De Stijl in 1917. From the 1930’s until his death, Huszár lived and worked in a village near Harderwijk, Hierden. Huszár developed into a prominent painter, draftsman, sculptor, graphic designer, advertising designer and industrial designer. The exhibition in the Stadsmuseum therefore presents a broad exhibition that shows exactly this artistic versatility.

Ambassador Kocsis was received in Harderwijk by Mayor Harm-Jan van Schaik and Stadsmuseum director Corien van der Meulen. The visit and guided tour were attended by prominent historians and cultural professionals from Harderwijk and Hierden, as well as the two granddaughters of Huszár, Ms Ubbink- Huszár and Ms Schouwenburg-Huszár.

The morning in Harderwijk was completed by a short visit to a plaque in honour of János Apáczai Csere, a famous Hungarian theologist and encyclopedist who earned his doctorate in theology from the University of Harderwijk in 1651.
