On Friday 16 February, Ambassador Kocsis and his colleagues Saskia Molema, Cultural Manager, and Honorary Consul Seerp Leistra paid an official visit to Leeuwarden, the European Capital of Culture in 2018.

The Embassy of Hungary in the Netherlands supports ‘Leeuwarden-Fryslân 2018’. Two Hungarian events will be organized in the Northern city this year, namely a concert by the popular band Muzsikás during the Yiddish Waves Festival on 3 March and a Hungarian delegation of sportsmen and women will travel to the Frisian capital for the European Sports for all Games, which will take place between 3 and 7 August.

The visit on Friday 16 February kicked-off with a meeting with the mayor of Leeuwarden, Mr Ferd Crone. Ambassador Kocsis and his colleagues then visited Tresoar, where they met the organizers of the Yiddish Waves Festival. This meeting included a short performance by singer and artistic director Lucette van den Berg.

On their way to the third meeting, the ambassador and his colleagues got a short tour through OBE and the Lân fan taal, by business director Wybren Jorritsma. They then met the Director of Sport Fryslân, Anne Jochum de Vries and spoke about the European Sports for all Games.

The day was concluded by a lunch with the CEO and business director of ‘Leeuwarden-Fryslân 2018’ Tjeerd van Bekkum and John Bonnema of, in the Fries Museum.

The meetings were a great opportunity to strengthen the cooperations and paved the way for collaborations beyond 2018 as well.
