On Friday 12 July, Ambassador Kocsis visited the province of Overijssel. At the Provinciehuis of Zwolle the Ambassador met with the Commissioner of the King Andries Heidema. In the city of Kampen the Ambassador had a meeting with Mayor Bort Koelewijn.

The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the economic, cultural and historic ties between Hungary and Overijssel. The existing twin city connections between some Hungarian and Dutch cities such as Nagykőrös-Haaksbergen, Pápa-Kampen and Keszthely-Hof van Twente give a remarkable impetus to the bilateral relations.

A special project that was also discussed is the 100th anniversary of the first “Kindertrein” that left Hungary for the Netherlands. After both World War I and WWII many children-trains arrived in the Netherlands from Hungary with malnourished children in order to get them fit again. Numerous, still active personal contacts developed between the receiving families in the Netherlands and the families of the children in Hungary.

Ambassador Kocsis also gave an interview to RTV Oost and RTV Focus Zwolle.
