On January 25, the Hungarian film Eden, by award-winning director Ágnes Kocsis, had its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR).

Eden explores the confusing ambiguity of the modern world suspended between sustainability and emptiness. 

The film is part of the VPRO Big Screen Competition, a collaboration between IFFR and VPRO. The winning film will be shown in film houses and on television all around the Netherlands. 

Ambassador Kocsis attended the premiere and met with Ágnes Kocsis and two of the cast members, main actress Lana Barić (left) and supporting actress Maja Roberti (right). 

Eden can still be seen at IFFR on Friday 31 January and Saturday 1 February. The screenings are followed by a Q & A with the director Ágnes Kocsis. For tickets please click here

The winner of the VPRO Big Screen Competition will be announced during the award ceremony on 31 January. 

 

Trailer and Synopsis

Éva is allergic to all kinds of chemical substances, air pollution, radio waves and electronic fields. She needs to live in total isolation and can have no contact with her environment. The slightest mistake may cause her death. Her only relations are with her brother and the doctors continuously experimenting on her. One day a psychiatrist comes to investigate if her illness is real or exists only in Éva's mind. Will love be enough to save her?
