In the framework of the Hungarian V4 Presidency justice ministers of the Visegrád countries met their counterparts from the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg in Budapest.
On September 25, ministers discussed different issues related to victim support. According to László Trócsányi, "victim support is obviously facing new challenges” due to terrorism. The Minister explained that Belgium and the Netherlands have more experience in this field, while the Visegrád countries were not affected at this time, but "you never know what might happen and when".
He added: "Both the V4 and the Benelux countries have established strong regional co-operation, they have many experience, and among others, it is important that the EU’s different regions cooperate. The Hungarian minister believes that efficiency should be kept in mind when it comes to justice, while the right of defendants and victims should also be fully enforced.
"The Benelux and the Visegrád countries are on the side of the victims. Victim support needs to be strengthened, in fair proceedings that allow for the speedy completion of cases" the justice minister said.
