Registration of the decease of a Hungarian citizen
A relative of the deceased may apply in person, by appointment selecting the 'Registration (death)' case type.
The procedure is free of charge.
Required documents:
CHANGE! From March 15, 2024! A multilingual civil registry extract alone is not sufficient!
- Original death certificate (uittreksel overlijdensakte) AND!!!
- You MUST also bring the multilingual form (meertalig modelformulier voor overlijden) issued by the competent Dutch authority (gemeente) or a certified Hungarian translation.
- The applicant's identity document (passport, identity card/ID or, for non-EU citizens, residence permit);
- Applicaton form completed but not signed;
- All available documents issued by the Hungarian authorities for the deceased (e.g., passport, identity card, address card, driver's license, birth and marriage certificates, social security card, tax card).
After registration, we will issue a multilingual death certificate, which will be sent by post to the address provided in the Netherlands or can be collected in person by the applicant at the consulate.
Duration of procedure
The procedure can take up to 3-4 months. There is no possibility of expediting the process.
