The European Day of Languages is a European initiative for the preservation of cultural heritage, the promotion of language teaching and intercultural understanding.

As part of the European Day of Languages, the EUNIC Cluster Netherlands arranged a 'speak-dating' program on 26 September. The event was organised in the Cultural Capital of Europe Leeuwarden, in two beautiful venues of the Lân fan Taal.

The goal of the event was to familiarize students and interested adults with different languages and minority languages of the EU. In short and interactive lessons of five to ten minutes, the audience became acquainted with almost 20 European languages, such as Frisian, Welsh, Czech, Croatian, Italian, Polish, Catalan, Austrian-German, Maltese, Hungarian, Finnish, French, Estonian, Rhaeto-Romance, Eilauners (language of Schiermonnikoog) and Turkish.

Hungarian was presented by Henriett Duijs-Gerda, a teacher who explained the basics of the language, the specialities of its grammar and taught some basic words, numbers and expressions. The guests interested in the Hungarian language were offered to taste one of the Hungarian gastronomic specialities, 'pogácsa'.

The participation of Hungarian was made possible through the support of the Embassy of Hungary in The Netherlands.
