On 21 March, Ambassador Kocsis attended the kick-off party of the Dutch Maccabi sports team. Maccabi is an organisation that utilises sports, educational and cultural events as a means to bring Jewish people of all ages and denominations closer together. In 2019, the European Maccabi Games are held in Budapest. Approximately 88 athletes from the Netherlands will be going to Hungary at the end of July to compete in tennis, soccer, swimming, shooting, horse riding, cycling, and many more sports.

At the kick-off party in Amstelveen, Maccabi sports celebrated that the Dutch team will be going to Hungary and unveiled the athletes’ jersey together with athletes, families and friends.

At the event, the Ambassador expressed how excited Hungary was to be hosting the games. He also encouraged the athletes to enjoy the rich Jewish cultural centre that Budapest is. Hungary hosts the largest Jewish festival in Europe, this year coinciding with the European Maccabi Games in 2019 and is home to the Great Synagogue, the biggest in Europe.
